At New England Running Company we have a separate wall set aside for our trail collection. Whether you're running on carriage roads or technical single track, we have a trail shoe to meet your needs.

Why buy a trail running shoe?
Trail running demands different things from a shoe than road running. Plain and simple, trail shoes take far more abuse. Rocks, thorns, and slippery, uneven terrain are all part of the fun, and nearly every trail race involves at least one shoe being fully submerged in muck. Trail shoes have a more durable, more water resistant upper than most road shoes, as well as much greater traction.

No step on trails is the same.
Trail shoes offer a more stable midsole and outsole to help you keep your balance on tricky trails and better recover from the inevitable misstep. Most of our trail shoes have a denser midsole and rockguards in the forefoot to prevent the bruises and sore muscles that occur when your forefoot lands on a rock at just the right angle (the one where it feels like the rock is going straight through your foot).

Our trail shoes range from very technical shoes that can handle any trail in the area to less technical shoes that make an excellent crossover shoe for those of you who run on mixed terrain. We also offer some models with Goretex or water resistant uppers.

Trail Shoes on the Road
Here in the Northeast, trail shoes can also make great winter running shoes, thanks to the better tread and weather protection. If you're planning on running on mixed terrain or using your trail runner as a winter road shoe, we can suggest appropriate models.
